Reanimated and re-issued, this double album by My Silent Wake showcases one of the top gothic/doom metal band's earlier efforts.
Title: The Anatomy Of Melancholy (Reanimated Edition)
Artist: My Silent Wake
Label: Bombworks Records
Time: 17 tracks/1:35:05 min.
Doom metalers My Silent Wake just released a new album this month - but for those that need to grab a piece of their history, Bombworks has brought forth the reanimated version of Anatomy of Melancholy . My Silent Wake shows why they are one of the top bands in the Gothic Doom/Death Metal category, with disc one bringing the brutality and melancholy that fans have come to expect. But if you have ever wondered what My Silent Wake would sound like in a stripped-back environment, disc two will answer that question. In all honesty, I was expecting to be bored by the second disc. Metal bands don’t exactly have a long history of pulling off “mellow” music for an entire disc. Maybe for a song intro or album interlude… but a whole disc? However, I ended up enjoying the whole second part. It’s just… well, exactly what you would expect and completely different than what you would expect at the same time. I was pleasantly surprised. Now what about this “reanimated” part? I haven’t heard the original, so I can’t comment on upgrades to sonic quality – but this version sounds great to these ears. All around, a great re-issue of a hard to find genre classic.
