The Bluesmasters Volume Two is not all that different from the band's previous release – a competently-performed collection of blues tracks that will satisfy the less-than-hardcore blues fan but might be a bit tepid and clinical for others. There are all of the familiar blues themes here; cadillacs, red roosters, muddy water, the boss-man, sexual frustration and Tanqueray (whatever that is – but Hazel Miller wants a drink of it). Really, all of the elements you need for a good blues mix are included in this package, including good performances by the basic band (Tim Tucker and Hubert Sumlin – guitars, Doug Lynn – harp, Aynsley Dunbar – drums, Ric Ulsky – B3 Larry Thompson – drums, and Pinetop Perkins – piano) as well as special guests, Cassie Taylor, Hazel Miller, Mickey Thomas and the amazing Eric Gales on guitar. A good album – but maybe a little more sweat and a little less Tanqueray next time.....
