Household Tales

Household Tales will be one of the most refreshing records you hear this year (thanks John Mark Painter).

Household Tales is Eden Wilhelm's just released debut EP. Eden is 18 and started writing songs at 15. Struggling with minor depression and blossoming anxiety since the age of 11, she was given her first song in an old choir room with a piano that hadn’t been tuned in 20 years. As Eden says, "I didn’t know I needed music, but God knew. Out of those songs, and out of processing through their lyrics and meanings, I came to a place of deeper, intrinsic healing."

Produced by none other than John Mark Painter, these songs are whimsical and quirky, catchy and intriguing. And having Painter as the producer was the perfect match.

Some of the songs on the EP draw from storytelling and fairy tales. Those songs are “Eleven Worn Shoes”, “Mister Moon”, and “Hallow’s Eve Hymn”. The remaining songs deal with themes of friendship, be it broken, healed, or what friendship should look like. Those are “Closer To Strangers” and “Tether.” You can tell these songs were composed with great care. There is truly excellent, well crafted songwriting here.

The music is acoustically based, but with a wide variety of instruments (thanks John Mark Painter) and very compelling vocals.

Household Tales will be one of the most refreshing records you hear this year. We can only hope for more from this new to us all songwriter.
