BR electrectrico cover itunesFrom surf-rock to psychedelia to space disco, Dr. Electro spins one cool Bollywood album sure to make you want to come visit his island.

Title: The Island of Dr Electrico
Artist: The Bombay Royale
Label: Hope Street Recordings
Time: 12 tracks/44:36 min.

I’m not even sure how to describe this album, but The Bombay Royale is a pretty cool band to listen to. The best way I can describe it is to imagine if a world fusion group decided to remake a classic Bollywood sound track from the 70s that was part spy mystery, part psychedelic road trip, and part concert jam. You have 70s funk and groove mixed with Bollywood singing, a mysterious spy atmosphere, some top notice soloing on various Indian instruments, horns, a dash of disco, and some rock sensibility holding it all together. Of course, this isn’t a soundtrack at all – Dr. Electro has no island (as far as I know). The whole theme adds to the coolness of the project. The story behind The Bombay Royale (http://thebombayroyale.com) as well as Hope Street Recordings (http://www.hopestreetrecordings.com) is just pretty cool. Fans of anything from Bollywood to World Fusion to cool and eclectic funky music should check this one out.
