Hero returns after a few years off with another album of well-crafted dark progressive metal.
Title: Afterlife
Artist: Hero
Label: Retroactive Records
Time: 10 tracks/48:05 min.
There was something a bit different about this album that I couldn’t quite put my finger on until I read a few other reviews. I would agree with Scott Waters of No Life Til Metal that there is a noticeable gothic influence to this album when compared to the last. That is a great addition in my book. Michael Hero’s voice is perfect for the style he is creating, and all the instruments are well played. As others have noted, the production could use a bit more beef, and the variety on display here might not appeal to some genre purists, but overall a quality package that I would easily recommend to fans of this type of metal.
