Best Films of 2018 In Alphabetical Order

A Private War (rated R)---Rosamund Pike gives quite a performance as war correspondent Marie Colvin in 2012 Syria. Bringing news to the public at a cost.

A Quiet Place (rated R)---Science fiction and silence, who would have thought? John Krasinski wrote the script, directed, starred in this film along with wife Emily Blunt.  How silent can you be?

A Star Is Born (rated R)---Bradley Cooper’s film all the way from directing to starring in a remake of the saga of rags to riches in the music world, but only one can be on top.

Black Panther (rated PG 13)---A  comic book creation of another civilization in Africa where pride is worn as a badge.

First Man (rated PG 13)---Ryan Gosling takes the role of Neil Armstrong, first man to step onto the moon, and tells Neil Armstrong’s personal story.

Free Solo (rated PG)--- A stunning photography challenge of following Alex Honnold climbing the 3000 foot El Capitan using only his bare fingers and toes. Not for the faint-hearted to watch. Gives “intestinal fortitude” new meaning. A National Geographic documentary.

Roma (rated R)---A black and white film (subtitles) that grows on you and tells the story of upper middle class life in Mexico during the 1970’s, when everyone who was anyone had a live-in maid.

The Favourite (rated R)---A look at British royalty during the time of Queen Anne and most of the intrigue  takes place between three women---the Queen and her attendants. Who needs a High Counsel?

The Wife (rated R)---Glenn Close takes the role of a professor’s wife, who has always been in the background of her husband’s writing career, and propels the situation to quite an ending.

Won’t You Be My Neighbor (rated G)---This documentary about Fred Rogers, of “Mr. Rogers Neighborhood,” brought pleasant television back to parents and children who learned about life with patience and grace.

********************************************************

Worst Films of 2018 in Alphabetical Order

Ant-Man and the Wasp (rated PG 13)---The title says it all. One swat and they are gone.

A Wrinkle In Time (rated PG 13)---Too much costume, too little interest.

Fifty Shades Freed (rated R)---The audience is free at last…if there was an audience.

Gotti (rated R)---Telling the story of John Gotti isn’t easy, but John Travolta was woefully miscast in this bio-pic.

Holmes & Watson (rated PG 13)---Will Farrell and John C. Reilly  make Arthur Conan Doyle turn over in his grave several times. This Sherlock Holmes combo is obsolete.

Isle Of Dogs (rated PG)---A Wes Anderson animated film that tried to tell the story of a city putting stray dogs on an island, but got caught by its own net.

Johnny English Strikes Again (rated PG 13)---Rowan Atkinson tries again for a hit in this over-done parody of spy thrillers and comes back with a miss.  Enough is enough.

Robin Hood (rated PG 13)---It came, it played, it shot itself in the foot with an arrow.

The House With a Clock In Its Walls (rated PG)---With a title like that you would have thought this was a timely film, but, no, it wound down with a thud.

Venom (rated R)---A comic-book hero/villain lost in a world of special effects. Movie-goers needed anti-toxin to attend.
