tpt-90pxRemember when Brian Johnson, Angus Young and Malcolm Young and the boys from the land Down Under laid down the gauntlet and said something akin to the expression ‘Rock and Roll…it ain’t noise pollution”? I think the exact words were: “Rock and Roll ain’t noise pollution…rock and roll ain’t gonna die…rock and roll ain’t noise pollution…rock and roll is just rock and roll”. Remember that?

Sure you do. It’s from the song “Rock and Roll Ain’t Noise Pollution” from the biggest come-back album of All-Time, Back in Black released in July of 1980! Actually, and this is pretty amazing, that album Back in Black, one of the biggest selling albums of All Time selling around 50 million copies world-wide was released just a mere five months after AC/DC’s original vocalist Bon Scott was found deceased from, well, let’s just call it alcohol poisoning. But, those words…the keen insight of Rock and Roll not being noise pollution rears its head again when I scan over the list below. Because the whole of this list is proof positive that, all things being equal, what have we learned? That’s right. Rock and Roll Ain’t Noise Pollution! It’s not going to be noise pollution and frankly it’s a little bothersome that some people are still, of a mind, that maybe, just maybe, it is noise pollution. Bollocks!! It’s a classic saying and a classic song. Where would we be without noise pollution???…Um, Rock and Roll!!!???

Okay then.

Many of the artists below don’t rock quite as hard as AC/DC, but they’re trying!! And there’s something to be said for that.

Switching subjects…I have a homework assignment for all of The Crossing readers…that's right! Don’t fret, I’ll make this reasonably easy and something we can all benefit from. Here’s the deal:

I want all of you to think long and hard and consider, if you have to sleep on it, that’s fine, just give it some quality time: Name your favorite artists from the past 13 years. The only criteria is that the artist’ debut album came out in the year 2000 or after. I want young, pretty young, reasonably young, fairly young, been around, not all that long bands and artists. What do you think? Does this work for you all? Make a list of as many as you can, but probably 10 to 15 would work. I’m sure there’ll be plenty of overlap, but I’ll compile the list of artists that people are digging these days and post it on the next Crossing. If I get enough lists sent to me, I’ll post the lists and your names so everyone gets a ‘real’ shot at fame and can be on this column! Pretty great, huh? But seriously, it would be great to see who people are listening to these days and consider recent favorites. Looking for artists obvious and not so obvious who may be worth your time and others time. Send your lists here:
