Country Faith: 56 Reflections From Today’s Leading Country Music Stars
Ccompiled by Deborah Evans Price, Zondervan, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49530, hardback, pp. 128, 2013. $12.99. ISBN 978-0-310-42293-8.

This beautifully packaged compilation of inspirational “reflections” from country music stars is well done. Not only is it appropriate for the holiday time of the year, but to get to know something about a favorite singer/instrumentalist. The stars have two pages, one with a photo and the other with a Bible verse and why that verse is important to the artist. Josh Turner writes the Foreward telling of how a song he had written, “Long Black Train,” had meant so much to a fan who spoke to him.

Artists included are Danny Gokey, Lee Greenwood, Lorrie Morgan, Brian Kelley & Tyler Hubbard, Carrie Underwood, Trisha Yearwood, Alan Jackson, Larry Gatlin and Charlie Daniels. Carrie Underwood chooses Romans 8:38-39 about nothing being able to separate us from God’s love. Trisha Yearwood has James 1:17 with perfect gifts from above. Larry Gatlin has Matthew 1:18, 25 about the birth of Jesus. Lee Greenwood chooses Psalm 32: 1 in which sins being forgiven, and Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard (Florida Georgia Line) choose Jeremiah 29:11 about God having plans for us and Isaiah 40:31 about hoping in the Lord and renewing strength. My favorite is Lorrie Morgan who chooses Psalm 23 as part of her faith that helped her through tragedies in her life.

The end of the book takes the Book of Mark, which is the shortest of the Gospels and arranges it into sections for easier reading and understanding. Beginning with John The Baptist, through the baptism of Jesus, miracles, the raising of a deceased little girl, feeding of the five thousand, The Last Supper, The Crucifixion and Christ Rises. This compilation is really two books in one and a good and comforting read.
