The main thought that I took away from this book is the idea of wondering how do we live the life and accomplish the goals that God has set forth for us.

Sherry Shenoda is an Egyptian-American poet born in Cairo, Egypt and currently living in California, "The Lightkeeper" is her first work of fiction and hopefully it will not be her last. I devoured this book with great anticipation and expectation and it totally fulfilled my hopes for a good, no a great read. Let me try to explain briefly the plot line without giving away too many, as Dr. River Song would say, spoilers. The Keeper travels from lighthouse to lighthouse doing what is necessary to keep the light operating efficiently and in good order. The kicker is that she travels through time never knowing where she will go next or even how long she will be there. She has no knowledge of her personal past or even for that matter her own name. She just is aware that there is a job to do and she does it well under any circumstances that are presented to her. From the ancient lighthouse in Alexandria to Japan in the 1740's to Tierra Del Fuego in 2021. Where will she go next and how long will she be there. Will she ever actually be able to put down roots and make a friend who she can confide in. 

I think that the main thought that I took away from this book is the idea of wondering how do we live the life and accomplish the goals that God has set forth for us even when sometimes we either don't understand or are aware of exactly what that calling is. Can we trust ourselves into the hands of the very One who gives us life and breath. Can we really live a life based on faith and not just what we can see. To the author I would say thank you so very much for a work of adventure and intelligence, two aspects which are greatly ignored in works of fiction by Christian authors these day. Keep up the good work and I look forward to your next offering!!!
