Bring in the Sails
Artist:  The Urban Hillbilly Quartet
Label:  House of Mercy Recordings
website:  http://www.erikbrandt.com/

St. Paul Minnesota's Urban Hillbilly Quartet have learned their lessons well.   With direct references musically and lyrically to Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, The Doors and Johnny Cash, its clear what territory their walking in--The classic roots badlands of The Drive-By Truckers.   Fortunately, they also emerge with an original sound that rubs against enough blues-rock, alt. country and mainstream rock to make them a band worthy of national attention.  This all to short CD, Bring in the Sails, is an example of alternative country at its finest; but what makes them a notch above the usual labels is as soon as you've figured out a musical category, they defy it.
