Live from the Relevant Podcast
Length: 14 Tracks/48.40
Live from the Relevant Podcast is exactly what the title states (kinda’ refreshing in this day and age of marketing hooh-hah)…a collection of live cuts from the Relevant Magazine podcast archives featuring (mostly) acoustic renditions of songs from a bevy of eclectic artists. Since the cuts were performed live for a podcast there is a loose and laid back feel to the performances; you can hear an occasional misplaced drum beat or a guitarist not quite sure where to head next.
Some of the songs lend themselves well to acoustic performances (Derek Webb’s “Name”, Pigeon John’s “B”, Future of Forestry “Open Wide,” and Sara Groves “Loving a Person”)—while some of the cuts don’t make the transition well (NeedtoBreathe’s “Shine On” and The Procussions “Freestyle”). The recording quality on Live is on par with what you would expect for a podcast…a wee bit rough around the edges. But the diverse selection of artists and musical styles (rock, emo, rap, pop, indie) make for an interesting listen, and Live from the Relevant Podcast showcases some familiar faves as well as some newcomers that the listener will want to check out.
